Affordable Tuition and Quality Tutors
It’s been almost 2 years since I last wrote a blog dedicated to affordable tuition. We all know there’s a wide range of options when it comes to selecting a private tutor, with a plethora of new grads, resting actors, retired teachers et al offering tutoring services.
As I’ve said often, the holding of a degree does not a good tutor make. It’s takes years to refine one’s craft.
With over 13,000 hours of 1:1 private tuition under my belt, I feel qualified to talk about this subject!
I was listening to an interview on Radio 4 recently about the latest government-backed tuition offering. The professor interviewee was saying how there are no quality tutors around and for that reason, new graduates were being recruited to help with basic numeracy and literacy tuition.
To that I say, well, it depends on where you look!
Those that know me will aware that for several years I’ve been running pro bono (free) tuition at various locations and I’ve also been making highly affordable courses available online since the start of the pandemic.
Yes, I still have my premium 1:1 offerings in place, but to support a wider audience, I put in place maths and science courses at GCSE and A Level for as little as £15 per lesson. There’s no commitment beyond each half term and the groups are kept small enough to ensure each student gets appropriate levels of attention.
I consider myself to be a top tutor. And yet I’ve never once been approached and asked to be part of delivering tuition to the disadvantaged, or to those in need of catch-up support.
To be completely honest with you, I have no faith in the government’s attempt to fix the situation, regardless of how much money is (or isn’t) thrown at it. When the man heading it up (Sir Kevan Collins) quits over a lack of funds (around 20% of the previously ‘agreed’ amount), you know the odds aren’t in its favour.
In fact, so low is my belief in the money finding its way to those that need it that I am starting my own initiative to address it directly. More on that soon.
Meanwhile, for those that want the highest quality tuition for their children at a very affordable and agreeable fee, you can see more about my online courses here.
Regards,
Muhammad
